Inner Change Freedom Initiative: Prison Ministry

The InnerChange Freedom Initiative is a revolutionary, Christ-centered, values-based, pre-and post-release prison program supporting prison inmates and parolees through their spiritual and moral transformation into a new life in Christ.

This program is a U.S. pilot program, which began in April 1997 at a minimum security prison (the Carol S. Vance Unit in Sugar Land, Texas), and is a joint effort between the Prison Fellowship Ministries, Houston-based churches, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The program begins 12-18 months prior to an inmate's release and continues for an additional 6-12 months of aftercare, once the prisoner has been returned to the community. Inmates volunteer for the program, and just meet several criteria before they are accepted.

Volunteers can serve as tutors, lead a bible study or prayer group, or mentor an inmate pre-and post-release.

FUMC MC additionally supports the aftercare program with quarterly financial donations to facilitate the transition from prison to a new faith-based community. At the present, FUMC MC has over 30 volunteers who work in this area of mission ministry.

Contact Jim McNeill if you are interested in helping with this ministry.

Meals on Wheels:

Working in cooperation with Ft. Bend Senior Citizens, church members volunteer to take meals to people in need in the Missouri City/Sugar Land/Stafford area.

Each route has about 10 stops and takes approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete.

Training is available for this project through the Ft. Bend Senior Citizens.

Shalom Zone Health Ministries Van:

This mobile health clinic provides health services and immunizations to those in need on a sliding-scale fee basis.

FUMC MC provides volunteers as we host this van quarterly at East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.  In addition, FUMC MC makes quarterly financial donations to the Shalom Zone Ministry.
