Congregational & Community Health.

First United Methodist Church Missouri City is committed to caring for the health of our congregation and our community - not only spiritually, but physically, mentally and emotionally.

The purpose of this ministry is to provide compassion and care to individuals and family members within our church and our community who are coping with mental or physical health issues by offering spiritual, social, emotional and practical support.

 


Health & Wholeness:
  • Education and Seminars on health-related issues led by professionals
  • Serve as health-care advocates for church members during hospitalization/medical treatment
  • Provide information and referrals for local health care services
  • Connect with CanCare and offer to be a location for their city-wide Sunday seminars with nationally know experts in cancer care
  • Screenings for blood pressure, glucose, etc.
  • Health Fair encompassing Women's Health Concerns, Men's Health Day, Children and Youth Health Issues, Stress Workshop, Spirituality and Health, Alternative Health
  • Emergency Care during regular worship services and special church-wide activities

Second Family Care Team:
  • Volunteers offer help to those in the congregation or community who are in need of social and emotional support during periods of disability, chronic or terminal illness, or infirmity, and to those who are frail, elderly or homebound. Volunteers help with errands, visit, or provide respite for a primary caregiver.
  • In collaboration with Interfaith CarePartners

Cancer Care Ministry

 

  • Provide information packet before first time surgery or treatment
  • Assign a "church buddy" for the purpose of staying aware and responding for the needs of the patient and family during treatment
  • Partner with Christ UMC on cancer related programs
  • Connect interested persons with the ministry of CanCare
  • Sponsor any care support groups for cancer patients
  • Provide drivers, meals, at-home help, shopping, etc. for the patient or family
  • Provide assistance with living wills, power of attorney, etc. for the patient or family
  • Celebrate National Cancer Survivor Sunday
Depression/Bipolar Support Group
 
  • In collaboration with with Depression/Bipolar Support Alliance of Greater Houston,
  • Began in 2003. Over 80 people have been served through this group.
  • Meet each Thursday at 7 p.m. in the church Parlor.

Parkinson's Exercise Group
 
  • For those in various stages of Parkinson's Disease
  • Meets each Monday at 10 a.m. in Music Rooms A & B
Alzheimer's and Other Dementia Caregivers SupportGroup
 
  • Meets every second Tuesday of the month (11 a.m. until 1 p.m.) in the church Parlor
  • Please join us each month as we learn, socialize, discuss and support one another
